The OoVoo Tool bar is a malicious program that installed on the infected computer as a browser extension and performs a certain kind of suspicious activities. Initially the OoVoo Tool bar changes the settings of the browser to create a platform for future changes. These browser changes include changes in home page, default search engine, and privacy settings. Besides that, it has the ability to change the windows registry by modifying the existing entries, and creating new entries. Every time you start your windows, it will run automatically in the background which makes it hard to remove. Once the OoVoo Tool bar installed on any computer, it immediately occupies most of the computer resources, resultantly, it slows down the speed of the computer. The OoVoo Tool bar is a highly dangerous parasite that has the ability to open the way for other malicious applications by changing the security settings of the computer. It presents itself as a legitimate browser extension, but in reality it is not more than a malicious application which is aimed to steal the personal information of the users.

 

Manual Removal of OoVoo Tool bar

Once this infection is detected on your computer you need to remove it immediately. You can either use a reliable automatic removal tool which helps you to delete this malware within just a few clicks of the mouse, or through the manual removal method which consists of the following steps:-

 

Restart the Computer in Safe Mode

The first thing which you need to do is start the computer in safe mode because in normal mode you cannot remove the files and processes related to the OoVoo Tool bar. You simply have to use the F8 key to see the boot option menu while your computer is restarting, and choose safe mode from there.

 

Kill the Associated Process

Once the PC start working in the safe mode, you have to start task manager by holding Ctrl+Alt+Delete keys together, and when the task manager windows are opened, you have to click on the processes tab to find and end the following processes:-

  • %AppData%\[RANDOM CHARACTERS]\[RANDOM CHARACTERS].exe

 

Delete the Files and Folders

After getting rid of the above mentioned malicious processes, you need to open the file explorer and find the following associated files to delete them:-

  • %Desktopdir%\ooVoo Toolbar.lnk

  • %Programs%\ooVoo Toolbar\ooVoo Toolbar.lnk

 

Delete Associated Registry Entries

After removing the malicious files and folders, you need to clean the windows registry by starting the registry editor through executing RegEdit command in the Run option of the Start menu. Once the registry editor is opened, you have to find and delete the following malicious registry entries:-

  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\ooVoo Toolbar\DisplayIcon %AppData%\[RANDOM CHARACTERS]\[RANDOM CHARACTERS].exe,0

  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\ooVoo Toolbar

  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\ooVoo Toolbar\UninstallString “%AppData%[RANDOM CHARACTERS][RANDOM CHARACTERS].exe” -u

  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce\[RANDOM CHARACTERS] %AppData%\[RANDOM CHARACTERS]\[RANDOM CHARACTERS].exe

  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\ooVoo Toolbar\ShortcutPath “%AppData%\[RANDOM CHARACTERS]\[RANDOM CHARACTERS].exe” -u

  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\ooVoo Toolbar\DisplayName ooVoo Toolbar

When the removal of above mentioned entries takes place, you have to close the registry editor and start the computer in the normal mode.
