The Popups is an advanced level adware infection that makes your system completely useless. The hackers use different channels to distribute this nasty adware, including the junk mail attachments, file sharing networks, social engineering, and unsafe browsing. It introduced itself as a helpful tool that helps the users to enhance their web browsing experience. It also used to collect the important information stored in the system, and transfer it to the third party hackers remotely. It disables your antivirus, and firewall to avoid any detection of removal effort. After making changes in the security arrangements, it invites additional threats to the system, and the system becomes a junkyard of different kinds of the parasites. It modifies the home page, and other crucial browser settings without your consent, and the objective of such modifications is to gain the control of your browsing.


Removal of Popups

After realizing that the Popups adware infection enters in the system, you have to decide which method you have to use to remove this adware program. You have got manual as well as automatic removal methods in this regard. The automatic removal is quick, and easy; whereas, the manual removal method is a bit complicated that consists of the following steps:-


Change the Mode of Operation from Normal to Safe Mode

It is unavoidable to boot the system in the safe mode before proceeding with the manual removal method. Restart the computer, and access the boot options screen by hitting the F8 key repeatedly while the system is restarted. Strike the Enter key after selecting the safe mode option from the list to boot the system in the safe mode.
End the Malicious Processes

Once the system is accessed in the safe mode, hold the Ctrl+Alt+Delete keys to access the task manager, and hit the Processes tab under the task manager window. You have to end the following corrupt processes associated with the Popups, before closing the task manager: –


Remove the Associated Data

You are required to open the system files folder from the file explorer, and remove the following associated files of the Popups:-

  • %Desktopdir%\ Ads Pop-ups.lnk
  • %Programs%\ Ads Pop-ups\ Ads Pop-ups.lnk

Reverse the Modification in the Windows Registry

Once you clean the windows registry, this process will be considered as complete. In this regard, access the registry editor through the Run option on the Start Menu, and type “regedit” in the box before pressing the “OK” button. Eliminate the following associated entries of the Popups after accessing the registry editor:-

  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\ Ads Pop-ups\DisplayIcon %AppData%\[RANDOM CHARACTERS]\[RANDOM CHARACTERS].exe,0
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\ Ads Pop-ups
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\ Ads Pop-ups\UninstallString “%AppData%[RANDOM CHARACTERS][RANDOM CHARACTERS].exe” -u
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce\[RANDOM CHARACTERS] %AppData%\[RANDOM CHARACTERS]\[RANDOM CHARACTERS].exe
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\ Ads Pop-ups\ShortcutPath “%AppData%\[RANDOM CHARACTERS]\[RANDOM CHARACTERS].exe” -u
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\ Ads Pop-ups\DisplayName Ads Pop-ups

Check the availability of the virus after accessing the system in the normal mode, and do not forget to run a system scan through an updated version of your existing antivirus.
