The Http:// is a recently distributed computer worm that is classified as a browser hijacker, and can be lethal for your system as well as the privacy of the data. Once this malicious application enters in the system, it takes the control of your browsing by modifying the default browser settings. This dangerous browser hijacker slips in the computer mostly when you download freeware from an unknown source. This infection helps the remote hackers to track the browsing history of the targeted users, and access their highly confidential details. It slowly modifies the network settings, and corrupt the hard drive without letting you know. It displays annoying pop-up ads on the screen of the infected machine which disturbs the normal browsing sessions. Most of these pop-up ads are related to the commercial advertisement campaigns, and promote low ranked affiliate sites. Removal of Http://

Once it is confirmed that the Http:// infection is available in your computer, you have to remove this nasty browser hijacker without wasting a single minute. Change the Mode of Operation from Normal to Safe Mode

You are required to access the safe mode on the computer to execute the manual removal instructions. Restart the system, and press the F8 key repeatedly to get the access of the boot options, and select the safe mode before pressing the Enter key to start the PC in the safe mode.
End the Malicious Processes

By remaining in the safe mode, you have to kill the processes associated with this browser hijacker. Access the windows task manager by pressing the Ctrl+Alt+Delete keys together, and click on the processes tab to see the list of processes where you have to find as well as  remove the following processes associated to the Http:// before closing the task manager:-


Remove the Associated Data

After completing the removal of the associated processes, you have to open the system files folder, and remove the following suspicious files by using the Delete key:-

  • %Desktopdir%\ .lnk
  • %Programs%\ \ .lnk

Reverse the Modification in the Windows Registry

Last but not least, clean the windows registry by removing the modifications created by this nasty browser hijacker. In this regard, access the registry editor by selecting the Run option in the Start menu, and type Regedit in the box. Remove the following entries once the registry editor is accessed:-

  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\ \UninstallString “%AppData%[RANDOM CHARACTERS][RANDOM CHARACTERS].exe” -u
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce\[RANDOM CHARACTERS] %AppData%\[RANDOM CHARACTERS]\[RANDOM CHARACTERS].exe
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\ \ShortcutPath “%AppData%\[RANDOM CHARACTERS]\[RANDOM CHARACTERS].exe” -u
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\ \DisplayName

Restart the computer in the normal mode to see how effectively you have removed the virus. Run a complete system scan through an updated version of your current antivirus.
